Leaving my friends in colorful Colorado was sad and I still miss them and the wonderful nature a lot… Yet, I have never regretted my decision to remigrate because it brought so much joy, excitement and new motivating impulses into my life.
Because I stepped into an uncertain future, leaving everything behind, I had the opportunity to start all over and therefore I could reconsider my taken for granted habits, desires and ideals and expand my horizons.
One of the changes for example was breaking my 17 years long vegetarian diet. I had been curious for a while how it would be to eat meat again. I secretly hope that eating meat will be beneficial for me, for example by reducing/healing injuries and offering more energy. With carnivores as friends I’ve been introduced in the world of different types of meat and guess what? I like the ‘real’ meat (like steaks) better than fish or chicken ;).
It’s kind of funny to experience how people around me respond to my choice. While I always had to defend myself being a vegetarian, even though I wasn’t judging or criticizing others for eating meat, it’s the exact opposite right now. Some people don’t understand at all why I started eating meat again. I guess it is a trend to be conscious about meat and it’s more and more normal to enjoy vegetarian dinners for non-vegetarians nowadays.
While pretty much everything has changed (the social, the career and the lifestyle) one thing remained to be unchanged: my passion for climbing. Even though I replaced the outdoor climbing heaven Colorado for the flat Netherlands, some parts within my climbing life got even better! Can you believe it?
One of those good changes are my new training buddies, Stefan and Jeroen!
As you might know, I’ve been trying to ‘train’ for climbing the past two years. It never really worked out as I hoped, mainly because I lacked perseverance, got injured, and didn’t have training partners with the same schedule (read: climbing junkies with plenty of time). Now I found those guys and it is amazing how much fun, pleasure and motivation it brings to me! It feels like a different kind of interpretation of climbing, whereby the focus and motivation are really high! Very glad that I got to know these new friends and to be back with my other friends over here. For all the crazy, amazingly friends in Colorado: please come and visit me somewhere in Europe :D!! I miss you guys!
So yeah, change 🙂Only thing that need some change right now is the weather!!
Can’t wait to go outside!!! Sun, are you there?
